Sk: Skip
SC: Single Crochet
HDC: Half Double Crochet
DC: Double Crochet
TC: Treble Crochet
BLO: Back Loop Only
FPSC: Front Post Single Crochet
*MDC: Modified DC. Ch2 and SC in the 2nd Ch from the hook. This counts as the first stitch.  
*Picot: Ch3 and SLST in the 3rd Ch from the hook.

Pattern:

Bag

  • To Start: Make a Ch of 38.
  • Round 1: HDC in the 2nd Ch from the hook and each Ch across. Turn your work to begin working down the other side of the Ch. HDC in the other side of Ch across.  SLST to join and Ch1.  (74)
  • Rounds 2-3: HDC in each stitch around. SLST to join and Ch1.  (74)
  • Round 4: HDC in the 3rd loop of each stitch around. SLST to join and turn.   (74)
  • Round 5(WS): MDC, SC in the same stitch. *DC in the next stitch, SC in the next.*. Repeat ** around Sk the last stitch. SLST to join, Ch1 and turn.   (74)
    • Photo tutorial shows the MDC and the placement of the first SC.
  • Round 6: HDC in each stitch around. SLST to join and turn. (74)
  • Round 7: Repeat Round 5.   (74)
  • Repeat Rounds 6 and 7 until your bag measures 7 inches.
    • The bag could be made taller/shorter by adding/removing repeats of Rounds  6 and 7.
    • Be sure to end with a repeat of Round 7.
  • Round 8: HDC in the first 44 stitches. Ch 25, Sk25 stitches. HDC in the remaining stitches. SLST to join and turn.    (74)
  • Round 9: MDC, SC in the next stitch. *DC in the next stitch or Ch, SC in the next.*. Repeat ** around. SLST to join, Ch1 and turn.   (74)
    • For Round 9, treat the Chs as stitches by working into them)
  • Round 10: HDC in each stitch around. SLST to join and turn.

Flap

Note: The flap is worked in Rows.

  • Row 1: MDC, *SC in the next stitch. DC in the next stitch.* Repeat ** 17 times.  Ch1 and turn  (35)
  • Row 2: HDC in the BLO of each stitch across. Turn.  (35)
  • Row 3: MDC, *SC in the next stitch. DC in the next stitch.* Repeat ** 17 times. turn  (35)
  • Row 4: Ch3 (counts as HDC and Ch1) Sk1 stitch, HDC in the next. *Ch1, Sk1 stitch. HDC in the next stitch.* Repeat ** across.   Turn. (35)
  • Row 5: MDC. *SC in the Ch1 space. DC in the next stitch*. Repeat ** across. Turn.  (35)
  • Row 6: Repeat Row 4.   (35)
  • Row 7: Repeat Row 5.  (35)
  • Row 8: Ch3 (counts as HDC and Ch1) Sk1 stitch, HDC in the next. *Ch1, Sk1 stitch. HDC in the next stitch.*  Repeat ** across.   Ch1 and turn. (35)
  • Row 9: Work 2HDC in each Ch1 space. Work 2HDC in the turning Ch3 space. HDC in the 2nd Ch. Ch1 and turn. (35)
  • Rows 10-11: LOOSELY SLST in the first 5 stitches. SC in the next 4 stitches. HDC in the next 4 stitches. DC in the next 9 stitches. HDC in the next 4 stitches. SC in the next 4 stitches. LOOSELY SLST in the last 5 stitches. Ch1 and turn. (35)
  • Row 12: SLST in the first 5 stitches. SC in the next 4 stitches. HDC in the next 4 stitches. DC in the next 2 stitches. Sk2 stitches [3TR, Picot, 3TR] in the next stitch. Sk2 stitches. DC in the next 2 stitches. HDC in the next 4 stitches. SC in the next 4 stitches. SLST in the last 5 stitches.   (38 stitches and 1 picot)
  • Finish off.
  • Weave in ends.
  • Using prefered method, add fringe along the bottom of the flap
  • Magnetic button can be added at the point for closure.

Inside Pocket

  • Turn the bag inside-out. Attach the yarn to the post of a stitch from Row 9.
  • Round 1: Evenly work 50 FPSC around the stitches of the Rows surrounding the opening.   (50)
  • Rounds 2-?: HDC in each stitch around. SLST to join and Ch1. Or work in continuous Rounds.
    • Continue until the pocket measures 4.25 inches or desired length is met.
  • SLST both sides of the pocket to close it.
  • Finish off
  • Weave in end
  • Turn bag rightside-out.
  • Add zipper or button

Purse Strap

  • If you are adding a store bought purse strap with D-Rings/O-Rings already attached, move on to the “Adding D-Rings or O-Rings” section.
  • If you want to make a the “Super Simple Purse Strap” that is photographed. You can find the tutorial HERE
    • Materials
      • Size 6 yarn
      • K-6.5 Crochet Hook
      • 2 D-Rings (3/4 inch) for a purse strap. 1 D-Ring (3/4 inch) for a wristlet
      • A large/blunt needle
      • Scissors

 

Adding D-Rings or O-Rings

RIGHT SIDE

  • Locate the first Row from the Flap.
  • Locate the first stitch from the first Row from the Flap
  • Attach Yarn to the same stitch that the first stitch from the flap is worked into

  • Rows 2-5: SC in each stitch across. Ch1 and turn.  (3)
  • Row 6: SC in each stitch across.
  • Finish off.
  • Leave a tail for sewing.
  • Insert the tab you just made into the D-Ring.
  • Use tail and yarn needle to sew the tab shut and secure the D-Ring.
  • Weave in ends.

LEFT SIDE

  • Locate the first Row from the Flap.
  • Locate the last worked stitch from the first Row of the Flap
  • Count 2 stitches to the right and attach your yarn.

  • Row 1: SC in the stitch that you attached to, SC in the next stitch, SC in the same stitch as the last stitch of the first Row from the Flap. Ch1 and turn.  (3)
  • Rows 2-5: SC in each stitch across. Ch1 and turn.  (3)
  • Row 6: SC in each stitch across.
  • Finish off.
  • Leave a tail for sewing.
  • Insert the tab you just made into the D-Ring.
  • Use tail and yarn needle to sew the tab shut and secure the D-Ring.
  • Weave in ends.
