Size G 4.00 mm Hook or any size to obtain gauge.
Worsted, Size 4 yarn

SC: Single Crochet
HDC: Half Double Crochet
SM: Stitch Marker

Gauge

17 HDC= 4 inches.

Height is unimportant.

Pattern Notes:

  1. This pattern is written from one side to another.
  2. This can fit from a 5×7 book to an A5 planner.
  3. Ribbed texture should be on the outside.

Pattern:

Main Book Insert Pocket

  • To Start: Make a Ch of 36
  • Round 1: HDC in the 2nd Ch from the hook and each Ch across. Turn so that you can begin working down the other side of the Ch. HDC in each Ch along the other side of the Ch. Do not SLST. Use a SM and begin working in continuous Rounds.   (70)
  • Round 2: HDC in the Back Loop and the 3rd loop of each stitch around. Move SM as you work in continuous rounds.   (70)
  • Repeat Round 2 until the Main Book insert measures approximately 5.5 inches.
  • Finish off by making a SLST in the next stitch.
  • Break Yarn
  • Weave in ends.

Spine Portion.

  • To Start: Lay the Main Book Insert Pocket Flat. Locate the stitch that is furthest to the bottom corner of the last round worked. Attach yarn. Ch1

  • Row 1: HDC in the Back Loop and the 3rd loop of  the stitch you attached to and the next 34 stitches. Ch1 and turn.   (35)
  • Row 2(WS): HDC in the each stitch across. Ch1 and turn.   (35)
  • Row 3(RS): Repeat  Row 2. (35)
  • Repeat Rows 2-3 until the spine portion measures approximately 3.5 inches. Make sure the last Row worked is the RS. Ch 35
    • Both pocket openings should be on the inside of the cover when it is closed.

Accessory Pocket

  • Round 1: HDC in the Back Loop and the 3rd loop of the first worked stitch of the last row and each stitch around. Move SM and work in continuous rounds.  (70)
  • Round 2: HDC in the Back Loop and the 3rd loop of each stitch around. Move SM as you work in continuous rounds.  (70)
  • Repeat Round 2 until the Accessory Pocket measures approximately 4.25 inches. Keep working HDCs until you get to the next corner of the pocket.
  • Finish off  by making a SLST in the next stitch and breaking your yarn.
  • Leave a long enough tail to sew the opening shut.
  • Turn the Accessory Pocket inside-out. With yarn needle and the tail, sew the opening closed
  • Turn Rightside-out.
  • Weave in ends.

Pen Holder

  • To Start: Make a Ch of 6
  • Row 1: SC in the 2nd Ch from the hook and each Ch across. Ch1 and turn.  (5)
  • Rows 2-4: SC in each stitch across. Ch1 and turn.  (5)
  • Row 5: SC in each stitch across.   (5)
  • Finish off, Leave a long enough tail to sew.
  • With Yarn needle and tail. Secure the piece to the Spine Portion. Leave the top and bottom of the holder unsewn.
  • Weave in ends.

Small Accessory Pocket

  • To Start: Make a Ch of 18
  • Row 1: HDC in the 2nd Ch from the hook and each Ch across. Ch1 and turn.   (17)
  • Row 2: HDC in each stitch across. Ch1 and turn.  (17)
  • Repeat Row 2 until the Small Accessory Pocket Measures approximately 3.5 inches.
  • Finish off, Leave a long enough tail to sew.
  • With Yarn needle and tail. Secure the piece to the bottom portion of the Larger Accessory Pocket. Leave the top unsewn.  
  • Weave in ends.

Tie

For the tie, I just took two long pieces of cotton yarn and put beads on each end.

 

Other Suggestion:

Add a Zipper to the accessory pocket to make a pouch
