Materials

Size H 5.00 Hook or any size to obtain gauge.
Worsted Weight Yarn
Scissors
Yarn Needle
Measuring Tape
Beads or Cord Lock (Optional)
Stitch Marker (Optional)

Approximate Yardage
540 Yards
180 yards for each color

Abbreviations
Ch- Chain
YO- Yarn Over
SLST- Slip Stitch
SC- Single Crochet
HDC- Half double Crochet

Gauge

4 inch x 1.75 inch = 14 stitches x 4 rows of HDC

Pattern Notes:

  1. This pattern is written from the bottom-up.
  2. This pattern is worked in rounds.
  3. When working HDC in the round. The Seam will travel. This will be the back of your bag so it will not be visible when wearing it.

Pattern:

Drawstring Bag

    • To Start: With Brown  Make a CH of 50
    • Round 1: HDC in the second Ch from the hook and each Ch across. Turn your work and HDC in each Ch along the other side of the Ch. SLST to join. Ch1.  (98)
    • Rounds 2-4: HDC in each stitch around. SLST to join and Ch1.  (98)Switch to Cream after the last round is finished.
    • Round 5: With Cream, HDC in the 3rd loop of each stitch around. SLST to join and Ch1.  (98)
    • Round 6: With Cream, SC in the first stitch. In the next stitch, insert your hook and pull a loop in the Brown, then finish the stitch using the Cream. *With Cream, SC in the next. In the next stitch insert your hook and pull a loop in the Brown, then finish the stitch using the Cream.*  Repeat ** around. SLST to join and Ch 1. (98)
    • Rounds 7-10: With Cream, HDC in each stitch around. SLST to join and Ch1.  (98)Switch to Blue after the last round is finished.
    • Round 11: With Blue , HDC in the 3rd loop of each stitch around. SLST to join and Ch1.  (98)
    • Round 12: With Blue, SC in the first stitch. In the next stitch, insert your hook and pull a loop in the Cream, then finish the stitch using the Blue. *With Blue, SC in the next. In the next stitch insert your hook and pull a loop in the Cream, then finish the stitch using the Blue.*  Repeat ** around. SLST to join and Ch 1. (98)
    • Rounds 13-16: With Blue, HDC in each stitch around. SLST to join and Ch1.  (98)Switch to Brown after the last round is finished.
    • Round 17: With Brown, HDC in the 3rd loop of each stitch around. SLST to join and Ch1.  (98)
    • Round 18: With Brown, SC in the first stitch. In the next stitch, insert your hook and pull a loop in the Blue, then finish the stitch using the Brown. *With Brown, SC in the next. In the next stitch insert your hook and pull a loop in the Blue, then finish the stitch using the Brown.*  Repeat ** around. SLST to join and Ch 1. (98)
    • Rounds 19-22: With Brown, HDC in each stitch around. SLST to join and Ch1.  (98)Switch to Cream after the last round is finished.
    • Repeats Rows 5-22: 1 more time.
    • Repeat Rows 5-9: 1 more time. Do NOT switch to blue after the last Row.
    • Round 23: With Cream, HDC in each stitch around. SLST to join.  (98)
    • Round 24: Ch2 (counts as SC and Ch1.) Sk1 stitch. *SC in the next stitch. Ch1 and Sk1 stitch.* Repeat ** around. SLST to join and Ch1.  (98 SC’s and Chs)Round 24 is  the round that the drawstring will be weaved through.
    • Round 25: 2SC in each Ch1 space around. SLST to join.  (98)
    • Finish off, Weave in ends.

Drawstring Cord Instructions:

  • You can purchase Icord for this but I used a 4.50mm hook and this technique: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOTGUHn7mGg
  • Make a cord of 54 inches. Adjust length if need-be.
  • Lay the bag flat with the seam-side up.
  • Find the center-most Ch1 space from Round 24. Add a stitch marker if need-be.

  • Leave the center-most Ch1 space empty. Weave the cord in and out of the Ch1 spaces of Round 24.
  • Optional: Add 2 Beads or cord locks on the cord to help when bunching.

  • Add D rings to the bottom of the bag on either side.
  • Thread the cord through the D-Rings and use the tail to sew the cord around the D-Ring.
  • Finish off, Weave in Ends.
