I’m excited to be part of the MMCAL hosted by Jennifer of A Crocheted Simplicity. I have been a fan-girl of her shop for years so when she asked me to be a part of this CAL, I was did a happy dance! I have so enjoyed working with her and had so much fun putting this together for you guys!! Enjoy

  • Material List posted on the ACS blog Wednesday before the MMCAL begins
  • Segment 1: Friday, November 30, 2018 at 5am CST.
  • Segment 2: Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 5am CST.
  • Segment 3: Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 5am CST.
  • MMCAL Closes & prizes will be chosen Monday, December 3, 2018 at 5am CST. Prizes drawn by noon CST.


Materials:

Size 3.50 mm Hook
Size 4.00 mm Hook
4 Colors of Worsted, Size 4 Yarn.
Color A = ~80 yards
Color B = ~25 yards
Color C = ~15 yards
Color D = Scrap
Scissors
Yarn Needle
Measuring Tape
Mini Crafting flowers
A large handful of Poly-fil/Fiber-fil. You may use scrap yarn as stuffing.

Abbreviations:
Ch- Chain
SC- Single Crochet
SC2tog- Single Crochet 2 Together
SC3tog- Single Crochet 3 Together
CA- Color A 
CB- Color B
CC- Color C
CD- Color D

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

Gauge
Gauge isn’t very important for this pattern. Finished is about 11 inches around.

Pattern Notes:

  1. This pattern is written to SLST and Ch1 but you could use a stitch marker if you prefer and work in continuous rounds.

Segment 1

With 4 mm hook

  • Round 1: To Start: With CA, work 7 SC’s in a Magic Circle. SLST to join and Ch1.  (7)
  • Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around. SLST to join and Ch1.  (14)
  • Round 3: SC in the first stitch. 2 SC in the next stitch. *SC in the next stitch. 2 SC in the next stitch.* Repeat ** around. SLST to join and Ch1.   (21)
  • Round 4: SC in the first 2 stitches. 2 SC in the next stitch. *SC in the next 2 stitches. 2 SC in the next stitch.* Repeat ** around. SLST to join and Ch1.   (28)
  • Round 5: SC in the first 3 stitches. 2 SC in the next stitch. *SC in the next 3 stitches. 2 SC in the next stitch.* Repeat ** around. SLST to join and Ch1.   (35)
  • Round 6: SC in the first 4 stitches. 2 SC in the next stitch. *SC in the next 4 stitches. 2 SC in the next stitch.* Repeat ** around. SLST to join and Ch1.   (42)
  • Rounds 7-13: SC in each stitch around. SLST to join and Ch1.  (42)
  • Round 14: SC in the first 4 stitches, SC2tog. *SC in the next 4 stitches. SC2tog.* Repeat ** around. SLST to join and Ch1. (35)
  • Round 15:  SC in the first 3 stitches, SC2tog. *SC in the next 3 stitches. SC2tog.* Repeat ** around. SLST to join and Ch1.  (28)
  • Round 16: SC in the first 2 stitches. SC2tog. *SC in the next 2 stitches, SC2tog.* Repeat ** around. SLST to join and Ch1.  (21)
  • Round 17:  SC in the first stitch. SC2tog. *SC in the next  stitch, SC2tog.* Repeat ** SLST to join and Ch1.   (14)At this point, begin stuffing.
  • Round 18:  SC2tog in each stitch around. SLST to join and Ch1.  (7)
  • Finish off, Leave a tail for weaving.
  • Finish stuffing until you cannot fit anymore.
  • With a yarn needle, Weave in the tail in and out of the remaining stitches. Pull tight to close, Make a knot to secure the hole.
  • Weave in ends.

Segment 2:

Part 1

With E hook and Color B
  • To Start: Make a Ch of 10. SLST to the first Ch to make a circle.
  • Round 1: Ch1 SC in each Ch around. SLST to join.     (10)
  • Rounds 2-3: Ch1. SC in each stitch around. SLST to join.     (10)
  • Round 4: Ch1. SC in the first 3 stitches. SC2tog. SC in the next 3 stitches. SC2tog. SLST to join.   (8)
  • Round 5-6: Ch1. SC in each stitch around. SLST to join.   (8)
  • Round 7: Ch1. SC in the first 2 stitches. SC2tog. SC in the next 2 stitches. SC2tog. SLST to join.   (6)
  • Finish off.
  • Weave tail in and out of the 6 stitches and pull tight to close the hole.
  • Stuff and sew to the top-center of the first section. position it slightly forward on one side.

Part 2

Make 2 with the 3.50 mm hook in CA
Make 2 with the 4.00 mm hook in CC.

  • To start: Make a Ch of 6
  • Row 1: SC in the 2nd Ch from the hook and each Ch1 across. Ch1 and turn.  (5)
  • Row 2: SC2tog, SC in the next stitch. SC2tog. Ch1 and turn.    (3)
  • Row 3: SC in each stitch across. Ch1 and turn.    (3)
  • Row 4: SC3tog. (1)
  • Finish off.
  • Place the CC triangle on top on the CA triangle and sew them together.
  • Fold the bottom of the triangle in half and use the tail to secure the sides together. It should be folded so that it comes to a point
  • Sew evenly to either side of Part 1. 
  • This will create a horn and ears.
  • Weave in ends.

Segment 3

Finishing Touches

With the horn in the center-top

Use CD to embroider simple closed eyes about half way down the “ball”

Suggestions:

Optional: Sew mini-ribbon craft flowers between the ears.

With a scrap piece of CA, create a hanging loop behind the horn to use it as an ornament.
